Right now, according to these charts, there are just under five hundred thousand cases of novel coronavirus globally. The spread of this new strain of corona-virus has spread rapidly, and has severely disrupted markets globally. To Americans like Texas Senator Dan Patrick, who had this wonderful bit of insight, the rest of the population is clearly sacrificial lambs, fit for slaughter. Well, excuse me Mr. Patrick, but why don't you and the rest of your actual constituents, and the people they represent, roll dice with your own and your loved ones lives, and leave the rest of us the fuck alone?
I have watched enough people die; I am really glad that my parents aren’t alive any longer to cause me any worry. I am getting angry. Angry enough that to stay silent any longer is untenable. I am one of the lucky ones. Working from home, my employer and my industry has had to make many strides forward; innovation by necessity. I am still receiving a paycheck, unlike countless others whose industries have been affected by shutdowns and shelter-in-place orders. I have family members, doing far better than myself, now thrust into uncertainty and changing their tune when it comes to the vulnerable. Grocery stores, restaurants, and other places have been deemed essential labor and have both kept working, and have added many more jobs for distribution. If Grocery stores and restaurants are essential for our economy to function, and so are the other industries still maintaining some semblance of normalcy in their workers lives, then they deserve a living wage. Anything less, is barbarism.
Our country needs a general strike.The Yellow Vests in France launched a Nationwide strike in December, and why can’t we do the same? All centrists are the same; Macron was supposed to be different for the French, being projected as THE ANSWER™ to the racist National Front. The Yellow Vest movement, in summation, decided to do a general strike because the pension program for workers is in jeopardy and is in the process of being upgraded to be beneficial to corporations, at the expense of the working class people, the very people they are depending on in their new nightmare. In the same way, VP Biden as the presumptive nominee in the Democratic primary, is going to continue the assault of the working class here in America.
You, dear reader, are going to have to do something. Americans have a distaste for rebellion, for rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, or so the saying goes. I can do nothing. My voice is only one in millions. For me to have any significant meaning to anybody is almost laughable; I’m not even on “their” radar. I am effectively muted, drowning in a sea of voices and never even considered. But, that’s the thing; all of us, together, are stronger. The people of this country, even the ones who would seemingly be your superiors, have more of a voice and are far more important to our society than someone like Jeff Bezos. If all of the people responsible for our civilization to continue forward, refuse to work until our conditions are made better and more favorable to our way of life, we could bring this country to its knees. Hell, the virus has already crippled our economy, and that is why the stock market tanking is scaring those at the top. Politicians, the propaganda machines that are the media, multi-billion dollar industries are demanding the country get back to work by April, potentially endangering the most vulnerable of our society. The ruling class clearly don’t give a fuck about you; you would be the blood sacrafice so that record profits could be recorded, and the market actually reflected that reality.
“What can I do now? We’re in quarantine,” I can hear you ask, dear reader. And I get it. I’ve been boggling my mind this whole time I’ve been at home, one of the many education workers scrambling to find some sense of relief and normalcy myself. It shouldn’t be this hard to just live; anyone working any job should be able to afford the essentials for themselves. Driving in my city, I am struck by the stark contrasts that exist within it. The working poor are one paycheck from being homeless, the same homeless people that society conveniently ignores or walks over. So, what can you do? Don’t forget. When your leaders had the chance to prove they gave any amount of shit for you, who did they choose to save with their “emergency relief” plan? The so called “emergency relief fund” will help families starting at two thousand, five hunded a month for couples. But, Corporations, airlines, and other essential value for the market? A mind-shattering four trillion dollars. Get angry; organize through meme culture, read a book, help your community, do not believe the government or their propaganda arm in the media, and, most importantly, practice self-care to limit the amount of burn out you experience. It’s only going to get worse in the upcoming days and possibly weeks. Stay vigilant, get organized, and do not let them forget that we are stronger together, and far stronger than they reckon.
